Handling of fish that because of injury must be killed

Fish that is sick or seriously injured (e.g. from deep hooking and serious bleeding) must not be released, but should instead be killed immediately as soon as injury is discovered. All killed salmon that is outside (in excess) of the legal quota (max one salmon over 80 cm and one female salmon) should be delivered at one of the local nursing homes.

At the nursing home you must sign a paper that the fish is treated according to guidelines (see below) and the nursing home sign a receipt to confirm that the fish is delivered. A copy (or a photo of the receipt) should be sent by email or sms to Orkla Local River Management email: rune@orklaguide.com or sms to phone + 47 924 01 517.

Guidelines for handling of fish that must be killed and for delivery to nursing homes

  • The fish must be killed and bleed off as soon as possible
  • Do not leave the fish on the ground
  • Avoid direct contact with soil
  • All handling of the fish should be done with clean hands
  • The fish should be placed in clean containment that is suitable for storing fish, and transported to the nearest nursing home as soon as possible
  • If immediate delivery is not possible, the fish must be temporarily stored in a cooler or a freezer
  • Cooling storage should be at max 4 degrees Celsius
  • Freezer storage should be below 18 degrees Celcius
